Always be mindful of your belongings and carry cash for the taxis

Transportation

Transportation in Mexico can vary from state to state. I live in the state of Nuevo Leon where a car is almost a requirement if you are commuting to work and so forth. Most states in Mexico have Uber or Didi (Mexico's Ride app similar to Uber) or local taxis but some states such as Oaxaca do not use Uber or Didi. Also note that most airports in Mexico do not allow Uber or Didi to pick or drop off passengers. They encourage to use airport taxis. Therefore most Uber drivers are reluctant to come inside to the airport, and will either request to pick you up outside the airport or cancel the ride.

The airport taxis that you can reserve from inside the airport have been safe and it is recommended to avoid the taxi drivers outside the airports. To travel across cities or states, the most commonly used and safest bus service is ADO similar to Greyhound/Mega bus in the US. You can reserve you ticker online or go to the nearest ADO bus terminal to book your tickets. Link to ADO bus service is here
